Who are Tri Tones Jazz?

We're a flexible jazz ensemble - we perform as solo, duo, trio or quartet - or more!

We perform with two main line ups:

  • "Classic": piano, double bass and lead-line player - with or without vocals
  • "Trad jazz": banjo, sousaphone and lead-line player - with or without vocals

Chris does piano and sousaphone, Stephen plays double bass and banjo, and Matt covers trumpet/flugelhorn, saxophone and percussion, and we've got Fliss on vocals.

We're professional, friendly and can't wait to help you set the perfect scene at your event.

We have a huge repertoire of jazz standards, classic swing numbers, latin favourites, and arrangements of your favourite TV and film music. See some example set lists.

Frequently asked questions

How much space do you need to set up?

We can normally fit ourselves in wherever we need to, within reason! Ideally we'd need an area 3.5m wide by 2m deep.

We have two line ups:

  • the "Classic" line up: piano, double bass and trumpet/sax/percussion - with or without vocals
  • the "Trad jazz" line up: banjo, sousaphone and trumpet/sax/percussion - with or without vocals

We can perform with either one or both.

We always try our best to be flexible to help ensure your event runs as smoothly as possible. If timings change slightly in the run up to the event just let us know.

Absolutely. This is a really popular request and we actually offer this service for free for before or between our sets. If you'd like a the facility to plug in an iPod or other device via our PA after our final set, we provide this service starting at an additional £60.

We usually set up about one to one-and-a-half hours before our performance time. We can do it in as little as 20 minutes if needed, but we much prefer to have everything sorted well before we are due to start!

With our "Classic", piano-based line up, we can't roam freely as our digital piano will always need to be played seated and plugged into power, but we are able to be in various outside locations as we have battery packs that our digital piano can run from. So we could do 'pop-up' performances, perhaps in unexpected locations at your event.

With our entirely acoustic "Trad" line up, we could roam and make the event particularly special!

We actually love it when our audiences help to pick our set lists for us! We have printed lists available for people to browse through and select from. If our clients would like to choose from our repertoire before the performance, to pick out the numbers they would like, that is absolutely fine too. Equally, we are happy to use our experience from countless performances and learning what works best to ensure people have an amazing time. See some example set lists.

If a song isn't included in our chart/song list there may still be a chance we already know it. If there is a special song you'd like us to learn we are happy to do this for you. There is normally a fee of £50 for this service to take into account preparation and rehearsal times etc.
